Amit Shah Assam visit faced disruption on Sunday after dense fog forced the cancellation of his scheduled flight to Guwahati. The delay has pushed his arrival back by at least one day, officials confirmed.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier announced that the Union Home Minister would begin a two-day Assam tour on Monday. The visit aimed to boost internal security measures and promote cultural heritage projects. However, poor visibility across northern and eastern India grounded flights, affecting Shah’s travel plans.

Officials said Amit Shah was supposed to reach Guwahati on Sunday night and stay at the state guest house in Koinadhara. No official programme was planned for that day. Due to the flight cancellation, Shah will now arrive on Monday morning. Authorities stated that the rest of his itinerary will remain unchanged.

On Monday, Shah is scheduled to pay tribute at the newly built Shaheed Smarak Kshetra. The memorial honours martyrs of the Assam Movement against illegal immigration. He will later travel to Bordowa in Nagaon district. There, he will inaugurate the redevelopment project of Batadrava Than, the birthplace of Vaishnav saint Srimanta Sankardeva. Shah will also address a public rally at the site.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of dense to very dense fog across Assam and several other states until January 1. Weather conditions continue to disrupt travel and daily life.
