Scientists seek clarification on drilling in Krishna delta | NoC concerns raised
Scientists seek clarification on drilling in Krishna delta after a Hyderabad-based group of scientists wrote to the Krishna District Collector. The group asked for clear answers on the risks linked to hydraulic fracturing and related drilling activities planned in the delta region.
In their letter, the scientists said drilling in the Krishna delta could affect groundwater, soil quality, and agriculture. They urged the district administration to explain the basis on which the No Objection Certificate (NoC) was issued. They also asked whether authorities conducted proper scientific studies before granting permission.
The scientists highlighted that the Krishna delta supports farming and fishing livelihoods. Any drilling activity, they warned, could disturb fragile ecosystems and water sources. They requested detailed information on safety measures, environmental safeguards, and emergency response plans.
The group also asked the Collector to make public all reports related to the project. They stressed the need for transparency and public consultation before moving ahead.
Scientists seek clarification on drilling in Krishna delta to ensure that development does not come at the cost of long-term environmental damage. They said scientific review and community awareness remain essential for responsible decision-making.
