The Rohtas Ropeway Accident led the Bihar government to take strict action on Tuesday. Road Construction Minister Dilip Jaiswal suspended two engineers after serious safety lapses came to light. The government also decided to blacklist the company involved in the project.
The Rohtas Ropeway Accident happened during a trial run of the ropeway in Rohtas district. The ropeway aims to connect Rohtasgarh Fort with nearby religious and tourist spots. During testing, a structure failed and damaged equipment. No one suffered injuries.
After a preliminary inquiry, the minister found poor supervision at the site. He suspended a project engineer and a junior engineer from Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited. He said both officers ignored safety rules and failed to monitor the work.
The state government also began the process to blacklist the construction company. Officials said the firm showed negligence during construction. Once blacklisted, the company will not receive future government contracts.
Experts from IIT Patna will now check the ropeway’s design and materials. The government will open the ropeway only after all safety standards are met. Officials said public safety remains the top priority.
