Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami on Tuesday said the Punjab government has itself admitted before the High Court that SGPC is a competent authority to take action in the 328 sacred saroops case. Addressing a press conference in Amritsar, Dhami questioned the government’s decision to register an FIR despite acknowledging SGPC’s administrative powers.

He said the inquiry into the matter was conducted under the directions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and SGPC fully implemented the recommendations of the Ishar Singh Commission. Dhami stated that strict action was taken against all responsible employees, from junior staff to senior officials, leaving no scope for police interference.

Dhami clarified that the High Court never ordered registration of an FIR. He said the government’s affidavit clearly accepted that the Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission has jurisdiction in such matters. Registering an FIR later, he added, exposes the Mann government’s dual and political approach.

Referring to earlier court cases, Dhami said governments have repeatedly accepted that SGPC’s service rules and administrative matters fall outside state interference. He accused the Punjab government of deliberately politicising sensitive Sikh issues for electoral gains.

Dhami asserted that SGPC has never protected any accused and will not tolerate false propaganda. He said the committee remains committed to transparency, Sikh principles, and the supremacy of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
