Mizoram Home Minister addressing press on attacks against Christians

Mizoram Home Minister strongly condemned recent attacks targeting Christian communities in the state and appealed for peace and harmony among all residents. The minister urged citizens not to give in to fear or communal tension.

Speaking at a press briefing in Aizawl, the Home Minister said, “Attacks against any community are unacceptable. We stand firmly against violence and are committed to protecting the lives and rights of all citizens.” Authorities have assured strict action against those responsible for the incidents.

According to officials, the attacks involved vandalism of church properties and intimidation of Christian residents in select areas. Local law enforcement has increased patrolling near sensitive sites and is monitoring the situation closely to prevent further incidents.

The Home Minister emphasized that Mizoram has a long tradition of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence, and that any attempt to disturb this unity will not be tolerated. He appealed to community leaders and residents to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activity.

“Everyone must maintain calm and avoid spreading misinformation that could escalate tensions,” the minister added. Authorities have also set up helplines and rapid response teams to ensure the safety of affected communities.

Religious and civil society groups have welcomed the Home Minister’s statement, describing it as a timely and necessary assurance. Meanwhile, police continue investigations to identify and apprehend those involved in the attacks.

Officials stressed that Mizoram remains a state where diversity and peaceful coexistence are respected, and that continued vigilance and cooperation from the public are essential to maintaining law and order.
