Missing BJP Leader Found Dead in East Midnapore Pond

Police recover missing BJP leader’s body from pond in East Midnapore

The body of a missing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was recovered from a pond in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district, five days after he was reported missing. The incident has triggered political tension in the area, with the BJP alleging foul play and demanding a thorough investigation.

Body Recovered After Five-Day Search

Local residents spotted the body floating in a pond on the outskirts of the village on Tuesday morning and alerted the police. A team reached the spot immediately and recovered the body in the presence of forensic officials. Authorities later confirmed the identity of the deceased as a local BJP functionary who had gone missing several days earlier.

Family members had lodged a missing complaint after repeated attempts to contact him failed. Police launched a search operation soon after but could not trace him until the recovery of the body.

Political Reactions and Allegations

Following the recovery, BJP leaders accused the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of political violence. They claimed the leader had received threats in the past and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the incident.

TMC leaders rejected the allegations and urged the police to complete the investigation before drawing conclusions. They stated that attempts were being made to politicise a tragic death.

Police Investigation Underway

Police officials stated that they have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Officers are questioning locals and examining call records and CCTV footage from nearby areas.

Security has been tightened in the region to prevent any law-and-order issues. Authorities assured that they would take strict action once the investigation establishes the facts.
