Bihar is set to establish 572 government model schools across the state this year. The initiative aims to provide students with facilities that match or exceed private schools. Students at these schools will also receive coaching for competitive exams, boosting their academic prospects.
The state education department has identified one model school in each district and one in each of the 534 blocks. Names of the schools will be finalized this month after on-site inspections. Once selected, these schools will be equipped with libraries, classrooms, and other essential resources. Special teachers will be assigned to ensure high-quality education.
The government plans to start the model schools in the academic session 2026-27. Schools will have multiple sections according to student strength, with at least eight teachers in secondary schools and 16 in higher secondary schools. Additional teachers will be appointed if student numbers increase.
Selected schools will also receive extra funds to improve infrastructure. Classrooms and new buildings will be added where required. Teachers will get special training, and the schools will focus on both academics and extracurricular development, including sports and AI skills.
