Women Employment Scheme sees 19 lakh new applications as the Bihar government closed the portal on December 31. The scheme aims to empower women by providing financial support for self-employment. Around 14 lakh urban women and 5 lakh rural women applied. Women Employment Scheme now moves to the verification stage.
Under this scheme, each approved woman will receive Rs 10,000 directly in her bank account. The money will help women start small businesses and improve their income. Officials confirmed that entries by field workers in rural areas and online submissions for urban areas are now complete.
So far, over 1.56 crore women have received the first installment under the scheme. Review teams will now check the latest applications before releasing funds to the new applicants. In urban areas, women will be organized into groups of 12–15, and only verified members of self-help groups will get the payment.
The Women Employment was approved by the Bihar cabinet in August 2025 and launched in September. Since then, millions of women have benefited from this support to become financially independent.
