Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a bold prediction ahead of the state assembly elections. His statement came before Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s active entry into the Assam campaign. Sarma claimed the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance could secure 103 of the 126 assembly seats.

Speaking at a public programme in Dimoria, Kamrup Metropolitan district, Sarma said the alliance’s prospects have improved significantly. He explained that the NDA earlier expected to win around 90 seats. He added that constituency delimitation increased the potential tally by 13 to 15 seats.

The BJP is contesting the elections with three regional allies. These include the Asom Gana Parishad, United People’s Party Liberal, and Bodoland People’s Front. Formal seat-sharing discussions among NDA partners are still ongoing.

Congress has stepped up its campaign by appointing Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as chairperson of the Assam screening committee. She will oversee candidate selection, alliance decisions, and election strategy. Her appointment has raised political stakes in the state.

Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi said the party will contest 100 seats. He said remaining seats will go to allies like Raijor Dal and Assam Jatiya Parishad. He also confirmed AIUDF will stay out of the opposition alliance. Major contest.
