Law and Order in Shambles became the central charge as Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal strongly criticised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann after the murder of sarpanch Jarmal Singh in Amritsar. Law and Order in Shambles, Badal said, now defines Punjab’s grim security situation.
Jarmal Singh, sarpanch of Valtoha village in Tarn Taran district, was shot dead during a wedding function in Amritsar. The brazen killing shocked residents and sparked political outrage across the state.
Reacting sharply, Sukhbir Badal said the incident reflected a disturbing rise in targeted killings. Moreover, he pointed out that just a day earlier a young man was shot dead in Bhinder Kalan in Moga, while a woman lost her life in a firing incident in Kapurthala on Friday.
According to Badal, criminals now operate without fear. As a result, people feel unsafe even in public gatherings. He blamed the Aam Aadmi Party government for failing to protect citizens.
Badal directly held Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann responsible, noting that he also controls the Home Department. “The Chief Minister cannot escape accountability for this collapse of law and order,” he said.
Meanwhile, SAD demanded immediate corrective steps. The party warned that continued inaction would further endanger public safety across Punjab.
