12-year-old girl found hanging in Maharashtra school hostel room

A 12-year-old girl was found hanging in her hostel room in Ausa tehsil, Maharashtra, police said on Monday. The victim, a Class VI student, allegedly committed suicide using a towel, according to Assistant Police Inspector DP Samap.

The girl, a resident of Taka village, was staying in the school hostel at the time of the incident. Police received an alert from hostel staff after discovering her body in the room.

Assistant Police Inspector Samap said initial investigation suggests the death was a suicide. “The girl was found hanging with a towel in her room. We are examining all angles and collecting evidence,” he told PTI.

Local authorities and school officials reached the hostel immediately after the incident. Police have sealed the scene and started formal investigations. They are also questioning hostel staff and other students to understand the circumstances leading up to the incident.

The body has been sent for post-mortem at the Ausa civil hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Police said the report will help confirm whether foul play was involved.

Officials urged parents, schools, and hostel authorities to pay attention to students’ mental health and well-being. They noted that timely intervention can prevent such tragedies.

This incident has raised concerns over safety and mental health monitoring in school hostels. Local authorities are expected to increase vigilance and counselling services for students.

The case is being treated as a sensitive matter, and the police have requested privacy for the victim’s family. They assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances and take necessary action.
