Gurdaspur shooting incident shocked residents on Monday after a former sarpanch allegedly shot himself inside his restaurant near Babri Naka on the Gurdaspur–Amritsar National Highway. The incident created panic in the busy area and drew immediate attention from locals and authorities.
The Gurdaspur shooting incident involved Manpreet Singh, former sarpanch of Jivanwal village and owner of the popular Chai Churi restaurant. He is also associated with the Congress Party. According to initial information, he allegedly fired at himself inside the restaurant. The reasons behind the act remain unclear.
Soon after receiving information, senior police officials rushed to the spot. DSP City Mohan Singh and SHO Sadar Amandeep Singh reached the restaurant and supervised the situation. Police teams ensured quick medical assistance and shifted Manpreet Singh to a nearby hospital.
Doctors said his condition remains critical, and he is undergoing treatment. Hospital authorities continue to monitor his health closely. Police officers have started preliminary inquiries to understand the circumstances that led to the incident.
DSP City Mohan Singh told reporters that the police acted without delay after receiving the alert. He added that further investigation will follow once the victim’s condition stabilises.
