HC Directs TTD to Submit Fresh Parakamani Plan, Allows CID Action Against Erring Officials
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) to come up with a fresh and comprehensive plan for the management of Parakamani, the counting and handling of offerings made by devotees at the Tirumala temple. The court observed that the existing system needed strengthening to ensure transparency, accountability, and security in handling donations.
During the hearing, the High Court also granted liberty to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) to initiate action against police officers allegedly involved in a conspiracy related to the theft of foreign currency, as mentioned in a report submitted by TTD. The court stressed that any misconduct by officials entrusted with security responsibilities must be dealt with strictly.
The judges underscored the importance of restoring public confidence in the Parakamani process and directed TTD to take corrective steps to prevent irregularities. Further hearings were scheduled to review compliance and progress.
