President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the United States will receive between 30 million and 50 million barrels of Venezuelan crude oil, to be sold at market prices. He said U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright has been directed to execute the plan immediately, with the oil transported by storage ships to American unloading docks.
Trump stated the proceeds from the sales would be controlled by him and used “to benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States.” This development follows U.S. military actions in Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, shifting U.S.–Venezuelan relations amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
The deal could inject significant volumes of oil into U.S. markets and involves plans for meetings with major oil company executives later this week to discuss broader energy cooperation.
