Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday announced plans to develop Him Chandigarh world class city near the Chandigarh border. The proposed city will come up at village Sithalpur in the Baddi area of Solan district.
The Chief Minister said the government aims to build Him Chandigarh world class city as a modern urban hub with global standards. He shared the details while addressing officials in Shimla on January 8, 2026.
Sukhu stated that the state government had formed a sub-committee to study the proposal in detail. The committee submitted its report to the Cabinet, which approved it without delay.
He revealed that three villages have agreed to pool nearly 3,400 acres of land for the project. The land will move to the Housing Department to support planned development and modern infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said the new city will strengthen industrial growth in the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh belt. It will also ease pressure on nearby urban areas and create fresh employment opportunities.
Sukhu added that the government plans to focus on planned housing, green spaces, and efficient transport. The project aims to attract investment while ensuring sustainable development for the region.
