Congress Accuses Govt of Easing Curbs on Chinese Firms, Seeks PM’s Explanation

The Congress has accused the Union government of planning to lift restrictions on Chinese companies bidding for Indian contracts, terming it a “calibrated capitulation” in its policy towards China. The opposition party expressed concern that such a move could compromise national security and undermine India’s domestic industries, which had benefited from earlier protective measures.
Congress leaders demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi provide a detailed explanation for what they described as the government’s sudden “U-turns” on China-related policies. They argued that the Budget Session of Parliament offers an appropriate forum for the government to clarify its position and reassure lawmakers and the public about safeguarding India’s strategic and economic interests.
The party warned that allowing Chinese firms greater access to Indian markets could adversely affect local manufacturers, employment, and critical sectors. The issue has sparked debates across political circles, highlighting ongoing tensions over India’s trade and security policies concerning China.
