India

The India US strategic partnership received renewed momentum as Washington and New Delhi prepared to restart trade talks on January 12. US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor described India as the most essential partner for the United States, underlining the depth of bilateral ties.

Speaking at the US Embassy in New Delhi, Gor said the relationship extends beyond trade. He highlighted cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health. Gor stressed that strong leadership ties anchor the partnership at the highest level.

He pointed to the personal rapport between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Gor, their friendship remains genuine and practical. He added that real friends may disagree but always resolve differences through dialogue.

Gor acknowledged that concluding a trade deal will not be simple. He noted India’s scale and complexity but said both sides remain determined. He confirmed that the next round of trade discussions would take place shortly.

The ambassador-designate also indicated that President Trump may visit India within the next year or two. He said such a visit would further elevate strategic cooperation.

In addition, Gor announced that India would join the US-led Pax Silica alliance. The initiative aims to secure resilient and innovative silicon supply chains among trusted partners.
