Migrant Labourer from Jharkhand Assaulted in Mangaluru After Being Mistaken for Bangladeshi
A migrant labourer from Jharkhand was allegedly assaulted in Mangaluru after being wrongly presumed to be a Bangladeshi national, triggering concerns over migrant safety and vigilante attacks. According to police, the incident occurred when a group of four men confronted the labourer, questioned his identity, and physically assaulted him before fleeing the scene.
The victim, who works at a local construction site, sustained injuries and was later shifted to a hospital for treatment. Police said preliminary inquiries revealed that the assault was motivated by suspicion about the man’s nationality, despite him being an Indian citizen with valid identification from Jharkhand.
A case has been registered, and police teams have launched a search to trace the four assailants involved in the attack. Senior officials condemned the incident and warned against taking the law into one’s own hands. They said strict action would be taken against those responsible and appealed to the public to avoid spreading suspicion and hatred against migrant workers.
