Sankranti Rush Triggers Traffic Snarls on Highways Around Vijayawada
Heavy traffic snarls caused considerable inconvenience to commuters on several roads in and around Vijayawada due to the surge in vehicular movement following the Sankranti festival. Long queues of vehicles were reported on national highways leading to major cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and other destinations as people returned after holiday celebrations.
Police officials said the traffic volume was unusually high from early morning hours, resulting in slow movement, particularly at highway junctions, toll plazas, and city exit points. Several commuters complained of delays stretching for hours, while public transport buses were also affected by congestion.
Traffic police were deployed at key locations to regulate movement and ease bottlenecks. Diversions and temporary traffic arrangements were put in place to manage the rush, especially on highways connecting coastal and Rayalaseema regions. Officials advised travellers to plan journeys during non-peak hours and follow traffic advisories. The situation was expected to ease gradually as festival-related travel subsided
