Madras HC Directs CMRL to Conduct Surprise Checks to Ensure Priority Seating for Senior Citizens and PwDs
The Madras High Court on Sunday directed the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to conduct surprise inspections on metro trains to ensure that priority seating for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwDs) is being properly observed. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G. Arul Murugan, emphasised the importance of maintaining facilities for vulnerable passengers and ensuring their comfort and safety while travelling.
The court also ordered that necessary action must be initiated if complaints are received from senior citizens or PwDs regarding denial of priority seating. It stressed that CMRL authorities should be proactive in implementing awareness campaigns and staff training to prevent misuse of reserved seats.
