A Jehanabad College hostel fire broke out on Monday evening at the Government Engineering College hostel in Jehanabad district of Bihar. The fire started suddenly in one section of the hostel and quickly filled the building with dense smoke. Students panicked and rushed out to save themselves. The Jehanabad College hostel fire caused six students to faint due to smoke and gas inhalation.
Students and staff members tried to control the flames using fire extinguishers. However, the smoke spread fast and made breathing difficult. Six students lost consciousness and were taken to the Community Health Centre in Hulasganj for treatment. Doctors provided immediate medical care. One student was later referred to a district hospital for further observation, while the others were discharged after first aid.
College officials said the fire likely started due to an electrical short circuit. The college administration reached the spot soon after the incident and ensured that all students were safe. Emergency arrangements were made without delay.
Some students reported damage to personal belongings kept in their rooms. The college management has ordered a safety review of hostel facilities. Students have also demanded regular electrical inspections to avoid such incidents in the future.
