Land Tax Offline Receipt Issued in Many Districts of Bihar Creates Stir

Land tax offline receipt issued in Bihar, government office checking receipts

The land tax offline receipt issued in many districts of Bihar has caused a major stir in government offices. Officials discovered that paper receipts were still being given to taxpayers even after a digital-only rule was implemented. This has raised concerns about staff not following proper procedures.

The rule requires all land tax payments and receipts to be processed digitally. Despite this, the land tax offline receipt issued in many districts of Bihar continued in areas like Saharsa, Supaul, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, and Motihari. Government officials say this goes against clear instructions and may involve misconduct.

The Bihar Revenue and Land Reforms Department has asked all district collectors and revenue officers to immediately report the number of unused offline receipt books. They also need to provide details of the staff who issued paper receipts so disciplinary action can begin.

Some districts, including Bhagalpur, Shekhaura, Purnia, and Darbhanga, have already deposited their unused receipt books. Supaul has done this as well, but some paper receipts were still given out, prompting further investigation.
