Putin Greenland Trump Tensions: Moscow Shrugs at US Push

Greenland

Russian President Vladimir Putin distanced Moscow from Donald Trump’s plan to acquire Greenland. He said the issue belongs to the United States and its NATO allies. He added that they would resolve it themselves.

Putin expressed sympathy for Greenland’s residents. He also showed interest in Trump’s efforts. However, he rejected claims that Russia threatens the island. He reminded viewers that Denmark sold the Virgin Islands to the United States in 1917. He also cited Russia’s 1867 sale of Alaska.

Russian officials and state media welcomed the dispute between Washington and Europe. Commentators said the crisis weakens NATO unity. They also said it diverts Western attention from the Ukraine war. Some warned that US control of Greenland could affect Arctic security and resources.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump repeated his desire to “get Greenland.” He said he would avoid military force. He criticized European allies and urged NATO not to block US expansion.

The Kremlin adopted a cautious tone. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the move could reshape world history. Moscow seeks leverage during talks on Ukraine and relations with Washington.

Trump also claimed Putin accepted an invitation to his proposed “Board of Peace.” The Kremlin said it continues to review the proposal.
