FIR Filed Against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun Over Republic Day Threats
The Delhi Police Special Cell has registered an FIR against Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a leader of the banned group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), for allegedly threatening to create unrest in Delhi before Republic Day on January 26, 2026.
Police say the action began after Pannun released a video message on social media in which he allegedly threatened to disturb peace and law and order in the national capital ahead of the celebrations. In the video, he claimed that pro‑Khalistan posters had been put up in areas like Rohini and Dabri through so‑called sleeper cells, although police searches have found no such posters so far.
The FIR was lodged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to criminal conspiracy, endangering India’s sovereignty, unity and integrity, and threats to national security.
Authorities are continuing the investigation to find the origin of the video and understand the aim behind the threats, while keeping a close watch on security in the capital ahead of Republic Day.
