Uttarakhand Implements UCC Law

Uttarakhand implements UCC law and creates history as the first Indian state to enforce the Uniform Civil Code. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami marked the milestone while addressing a programme celebrating the first anniversary of UCC implementation, observed as UCC Day, on January 27, 2026.

During the event, Uttarakhand implements UCC law was highlighted as a decisive step toward social justice and equality. Addressing officials and citizens, Mr. Dhami said the day would remain a golden chapter in the state’s history. He added that the Uniform Civil Code strengthens constitutional values and promotes equal rights for all citizens.

Moreover, the Chief Minister honoured officers and experts who played a key role in drafting and implementing the code. He praised their dedication and said teamwork made this reform possible. According to him, the law ensures uniformity in personal laws while respecting democratic principles.

Additionally, Mr. Dhami stated that the UCC removes legal discrimination and supports women’s empowerment. He noted that the reform aligns with the vision of a modern and progressive India. Therefore, Uttarakhand now stands as a model for other states.

Furthermore, the government plans awareness campaigns to help citizens understand the provisions of the UCC. Officials said smooth implementation remains a priority. Overall, the leadership described the reform as a transformative move toward fairness, unity, and inclusive governance.
