The tribal festival at Medaram entered a key phase as Sammakka set to arrive at Medaram Shrine on Thursday, drawing thousands of devotees from Telangana and neighbouring States. The arrival marks a significant ritual in the biennial Medaram Jatara.

Devotees and local leaders have urged the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs to declare the festival a national event, citing its cultural and religious importance. They said recognition at the national level would boost tourism and preserve tribal traditions.

Preparations at the shrine have been completed, with security, medical, and logistics teams deployed across the festival area. Temporary shelters, drinking water points, and first-aid facilities have been set up to manage the large crowd.

Sammakka is expected to arrive in the form of a vermilion casket from Chilakalagutta. Pilgrims believe her presence brings blessings, prosperity, and protection. Rituals, traditional songs, and processions will continue over the next few days.

Officials said the festival continues to uphold tribal customs and age-old practices, drawing attention to Telangana’s rich cultural heritage. Sammakka set to arrive at Medaram Shrine as the Jatara moves toward its peak.
