A.P. set to launch free power supply scheme for weavers starting April 1, aiming to reduce production costs and improve incomes in the textile sector. The State government announced the decision in Vijayawada on Thursday.

Minister for Handlooms and Textiles S. Savitha said A.P. set to launch free power supply scheme for weavers would benefit nearly 1.03 lakh families across Andhra Pradesh. The scheme covers 93,000 handloom families and 10,534 power loom families.

Under the scheme, handloom weavers are expected to save about ₹720 per month on electricity bills. Power loom weavers will save around ₹1,800 per month. The Minister said the savings would help families reinvest in raw materials and improve productivity.

She said the government designed the scheme to support traditional weavers who face rising input costs and market pressure. Officials completed the required groundwork to roll out the scheme on schedule.

The Minister added that the government remains committed to strengthening the handloom and textile sector. Additional welfare measures are also under consideration to provide better marketing support and skill development.

The free power supply scheme is expected to provide financial relief, protect livelihoods, and encourage younger generations to stay in the weaving profession.
