The Supreme Court of India has postponed a hearing on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and others to February 10, 2026. The ED filed the plea after it said its officials were obstructed during a search on January 8 at the office of I-PAC, a political consultancy linked to the Trinamool Congress, and at the home of its director. The central agency told the court that Mamata and senior state police officers interfered with its probe into an alleged money-laundering case related to a coal scam, and that evidence was taken away during the search. The Supreme Court earlier described the alleged “obstruction” as very serious and said it would examine whether state authorities can interfere with a central agency’s investigation. The court has also kept in place a stay on FIRs against ED officials and asked the West Bengal police to protect CCTV footage and other evidence.
