The delay in the release of the much-awaited Tamil film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has caused frustration in the Tamil film industry. Theatre owners and distributors were hoping the film would bring strong box office collections during the Pongal season. However, the postponement affected overall earnings.
Other Pongal releases such as ‘Parasakthi’ and ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ failed to attract large audiences and did not perform well at the box office. As a result, exhibitors faced financial pressure, with low ticket sales and empty theatres during an important festive period.
The only relief came from ‘Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil’, which unexpectedly turned into a big hit. The film drew good crowds and helped theatre owners recover some losses. Still, industry members said one successful film was not enough to make up for the overall shortfall.
Film trade experts said big releases like ‘Jana Nayagan’ play a key role in keeping theatres running. They hope its release date will be announced soon to revive the industry.
