Supreme Court Rules Free Land Allotment to IAMC ‘Unsustainable’

The Supreme Court has upheld the Telangana High Court’s decision that the free allotment of land to the International Arbitration & Mediation Centre (IAMC) is “unsustainable.” The top court dismissed the petition filed by IAMC challenging the High Court’s ruling.

Both courts agreed that giving away valuable public land without proper procedure is not acceptable. The Supreme Court noted that gratuitous distribution of natural resources violates established rules and government procedures. It emphasized that land, being a public resource, must be allocated transparently and fairly.

The High Court had earlier held that such free allotment could set a wrong precedent and affect public interest. The Supreme Court supported this view, saying that adherence to rules ensures accountability and prevents misuse of state resources.

The judgment makes it clear that government land cannot be given away arbitrarily, and proper procedures must be followed in all future allotments, safeguarding public interest and transparency.
