The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that Telangana’s urban local bodies are facing a severe debt crisis of ₹8,600 crore. Party leaders claimed that the state government’s mismanagement and poor financial planning have caused the mounting liabilities.
According to the BJP, this huge debt is affecting the functioning of municipalities and urban development projects. They said essential services like water supply, sanitation, and road maintenance are being impacted due to lack of funds.
The party also criticized the government for failing to provide timely grants and financial support to local bodies, forcing them to borrow heavily. BJP leaders warned that the growing debt could lead to long-term financial instability and hamper urban development in the State.
They urged the Telangana government to take immediate steps to clear debts, improve financial management, and ensure proper functioning of municipal bodies. The party also demanded transparency in the accounts of urban local bodies to prevent further financial mismanagement.
