The Election Commission has given a fourth extension to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. With this extension, the final voter list is now expected to be released in April. The decision was taken after the State’s Chief Electoral Officer requested more time.
The Election Commission has extended the period for filing claims and objections by 30 days. This will allow more people to check their names on the voter list and correct any mistakes. New voters can also apply for inclusion, while wrong or duplicate entries can be removed.
Officials said the extra time will help make the voter list more accurate and fair. Political parties have welcomed the move, saying it will improve transparency in the election process. The Special Intensive Revision is an important exercise to ensure that only eligible voters are included before upcoming elections in the state.
