The Union Home Ministry has responded to a question raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about the career progression of Agniveers after their military service. However, the Ministry did not directly address concerns about possible overlap with the Defence Ministry.
Instead, the Home Ministry referred to the Allocation of Business Rules, which define the responsibilities of different government departments. It said that under these rules, the Home Ministry is responsible for coordinating the post-service transition of former Agniveers into other jobs, especially in Central Armed Police Forces and other government services.
Rahul Gandhi had questioned how the career paths of Agniveers would be managed and whether there was confusion between ministries. Critics have raised concerns about clarity in responsibilities and long-term job security for Agniveers.
The issue has sparked debate about the implementation of the Agnipath scheme and the future opportunities available to young soldiers after completing their short-term service.
