A Rajya Sabha member has raised serious concerns about the impact of social media on the mental health of adolescents. The member pointed out that in recent weeks, there have been tragic cases of young students ending their lives. These incidents are believed to be linked to problems such as loneliness, isolation, and emotional stress, which may be worsened by excessive use of online platforms.

The member said that teenagers spend many hours on social media, which can negatively affect their self-esteem and mental well-being. Exposure to cyberbullying, unrealistic comparisons, and lack of real-life interaction may increase anxiety and depression among young people.

The issue was brought up in Parliament to urge the government to take action. Suggestions included increasing awareness about safe internet use, promoting mental health support in schools, and encouraging parents to monitor screen time.

The discussion highlights the growing need to protect young people from the harmful effects of excessive social media use.
