A 34-year-old assistant manager of a nationalised bank, Kiran Kumar, was arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly stealing ₹4 crore worth of pledged gold. The gold was meant to be held safely in the bank lockers, but Kumar reportedly misused his access to the locker keys.

Police said that during the absence of the branch manager, he gradually took small amounts of pledged gold over a period of time. The stolen gold was allegedly used to fund online betting activities. Investigators confirmed that the theft came to light after irregularities were noticed during routine checks.

Authorities have registered a formal case against Kumar and are probing whether others were involved or if any more gold is missing. Bank officials assured customers that strict security measures will be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future. The accused is currently in custody and under police investigation.
