Devotees across Andhra Pradesh gathered in large numbers at Siva temples to celebrate Mahasivaratri on Sunday. Major temples, including the famous Srisailam Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, Sri Kalahasteeswara Temple, and Draksharamam Bhimeswara Swamy Temple, saw a heavy rush of devotees from early morning.
Temples were beautifully decorated with colorful “thoranams” and special “mandapams” for rituals. Flex boards showing Lord Siva and Goddess Parvati were placed at many locations. Priests performed special pujas, abhishekams, and night-long prayers. Many devotees observed fasting and stayed awake to offer prayers at midnight, which is considered very sacred on Mahasivaratri.
Police and temple officials made special arrangements to manage the crowds and ensure smooth darshan. Drinking water, medical camps, and security were provided for the convenience of pilgrims. The festival was celebrated with great devotion and spiritual spirit across the State.
