S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, said that politics and security will increasingly shape how nations make decisions, instead of economics alone. Speaking in Mumbai, he explained that the global situation is changing rapidly.

He said the world is witnessing the “weaponisation” of production and finance. Countries are using trade, supply chains, market access, and export controls as strategic tools. According to him, economic policies are now closely linked with national security concerns.

Jaishankar pointed out that major powers are tightening export controls and leveraging market strength to protect their interests. This shift, he said, is affecting global cooperation and trade patterns.

He stressed that India must adapt to this new global environment by strengthening its own capabilities and building strong partnerships. He added that India should focus on self-reliance in key sectors while maintaining a balanced and practical foreign policy.
