The political crisis in Pakistan intensified after the sisters of former prime minister Imran Khan accused the government of plotting harm against him while he remains jailed. Speaking to reporters, Uzma Khan and Aleema Khan alleged that army chief Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi were linked to a “lethal conspiracy.” They said Khan warned them during meetings at Adiala jail that he feared for his safety.

The allegations arrive amid wider concerns over Khan’s health. His family has claimed his eyesight worsened and that access to trusted doctors remains limited. Officials, however, deny wrongdoing and say medical care has improved his condition. A government-appointed medical team reported better vision measurements after examination, describing reduced swelling as a sign of recovery.

The government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rejected claims of mistreatment and accused the opposition of politicising health issues.

Khan has been in custody since August 2023, and tensions between his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and state authorities continue to escalate. Analysts warn that such accusations could deepen instability as legal battles and public protests persist across the country.
