The government has decided to exclude over 5,300 acres of land from Kolleru Lake in West Godavari district. The land is spread across 10 villages and will no longer be part of the lake area.
This move is part of a plan to downsize Kolleru Lake and better manage the region. Officials said the exclusion will help improve land use for agriculture, housing, and other developmental activities while keeping the remaining lake area protected.
Local authorities have been asked to ensure the process is smooth and transparent. Farmers and residents in the 10 villages will be able to use the land for farming and other purposes legally.
Environmentalists, however, have raised concerns about the impact on the lake’s ecosystem. The government has assured that measures will be taken to protect the remaining water body and maintain its ecological balance while allowing development.
