The Andhra Pradesh government has passed a bill allowing voter registration in Panchayat Raj (PR) institutions four times a year. The amendment aims to make the voter registration process easier and more aligned with other elections in the State.
Under the new rule, eligible voters can register on four specific dates each year — January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1. This system is similar to the process followed for Assembly and Parliament elections, ensuring uniformity across different levels of governance.
Officials said the move will help more people, especially in rural areas, to participate in local elections. It also aims to keep the voter lists updated and accurate.
The government highlighted that easier registration will strengthen democracy at the grassroots level. Citizens were encouraged to check their voter details and register on time. The amendment is expected to increase participation and ensure that everyone eligible has the right to vote in PR elections.
