The Congress party has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his newly announced “MANAV” vision for artificial intelligence (AI). On February 19, 2026, the Prime Minister introduced the MANAV vision, which promotes a human-centric approach to AI with a focus on sovereignty, inclusivity, and responsible use of technology.
Congress leaders took a dig at the announcement, questioning the government’s past record on technology and data protection. They said that while the vision sounds promising, the government must ensure proper safeguards, transparency, and clear policies to truly benefit citizens.
The party also stressed the need for stronger data privacy laws and better support for innovation. According to Congress, AI development should protect jobs and ensure equal opportunities.
The government, however, defended the vision, saying it aims to make India a global leader in AI while keeping people’s interests at the center of technological growth.
