The Bihar liquor ban is under fresh debate as leaders from the ruling alliance call for change. The Bihar liquor ban has come under criticism from JDU MP Devesh Chandra Thakur, who said the prohibition policy has failed in practice and needs review. He claimed alcohol is still available at high prices through illegal networks.
Thakur said open borders with neighbouring states make enforcement difficult. He added that smuggling continues despite strict laws. Several NDA leaders have also raised concerns in recent months and demanded a fresh review of the policy.
Since the ban began, authorities have registered over a million cases and seized large quantities of liquor. However, illegal sales continue, and the state loses significant revenue. The state government has not announced any major change and maintains that the prohibition law remains in force.
