The Bihar Women Reservation plan could significantly change the state’s political structure. The central government is preparing to increase seats in Parliament and state assemblies to implement one-third reservation for women.

Under the Bihar Women Reservation proposal, Lok Sabha seats in Bihar may rise from 40 to 60. Assembly seats could increase from 243 to 365, giving more opportunities to women candidates.

The government plans to reserve about one-third of these seats for women. If implemented, around 20 women MPs and over 120 women MLAs could be elected from Bihar.

Officials may use the 2011 Census for delimitation to speed up the process. The goal is to implement the reservation from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Experts say the move can improve women’s participation in politics, though concerns remain about whether benefits will reach common women or political families.
