Ara Civil Court Bomb Blast: Patna High Court Acquits All Convicts

In a major development in the Ara Civil Court Bomb Blast case, the Patna High Court has acquitted all the convicts and cancelled the death sentence awarded to the main accused, Lambu Sharma. The court said the earlier judgment by the lower court could not stand because of legal issues and lack of strong evidence.

The Ara Civil Court Bomb Blast happened on January 23, 2015, at the civil court premises in Arrah, Bihar. The explosion killed two people, including a police constable, and injured several others. According to investigators, the blast was planned to help two prisoners escape while they were being brought to court.

In 2019, a district court had sentenced Lambu Sharma to death. Several other accused were given life imprisonment for their involvement in the case.

After reviewing the appeals, the Patna High Court set aside the earlier verdict and acquitted all the accused. However, some of them will remain in jail because they are facing other criminal cases.
