Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said that the main goal of the government is to make Andhra Pradesh cancer-free. Speaking at the inauguration of advanced cancer treatment equipment at King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam, he stressed that the NDA government is giving top priority to public health.
He explained that earlier, cancer patients in Andhra Pradesh had to travel to other states due to lack of facilities. Now, with a ₹45-crore investment, KGH has received a linear accelerator, HDR brachytherapy, and city simulators. These will boost services in surgical oncology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology.
The minister announced that similar improvements are coming to Kurnool, with the Centre already allocating funds. He also revealed plans to conduct a statewide survey to identify people with early cancer symptoms. Citing an ICMR 2022 report, he noted that India recorded 15 lakh new cases, calling cancer one of the world’s toughest health challenges.
Getting emotional, Satya Kumar Yadav recalled losing three family members to cancer. He urged doctors to work in rural and tribal areas and stay updated with modern medical practices. Local MLAs, hospital officials, and trust representatives joined the event.
