The Motihari poisonous liquor case has claimed at least 10 lives in the Turkaulia area of East Champaran district in Bihar. Several others fell seriously ill after drinking suspected spurious liquor. Around 14 people are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals.
Police said the victims consumed locally made liquor that allegedly contained methanol, a highly toxic chemical often used in industrial products. Soon after drinking it, many people started vomiting and complained of severe health problems. Some victims also lost their eyesight due to poisoning.
The Motihari poisonous liquor case has raised serious concerns about the illegal liquor trade in the region. Police and prohibition teams launched raids and seized large quantities of methanol stored in several containers during the investigation.
Officials said doctors are closely monitoring the condition of the injured patients. Authorities have also started a probe to identify those involved in producing and supplying the toxic liquor.
