In the Former MP Surajbhan Singh murder case, a court in Bihar has acquitted former MP Surajbhan Singh and another accused due to lack of evidence. The decision came nearly 30 years after the murder incident took place.
The MP-MLA court in Begusarai announced the verdict on Wednesday. During the hearing, Surajbhan Singh and co-accused Ajit Kumar Singh appeared in court. The judge said the prosecution failed to prove their involvement in the crime.
The case dates back to July 29, 1996. Ranjit Kumar, a resident of Beehat village, was shot dead at an engineer’s residence. His father filed an FIR at the Barauni police station. Initially, the FIR did not name Surajbhan Singh. Investigators later added his name during the police probe.
During the trial, the prosecution presented seven witnesses. However, most witnesses turned hostile and did not support their earlier statements. Because of weak evidence, the court cleared both accused in the Former MP Surajbhan Singh murder case, bringing an end to the decades-old trial.
