Cyber Crooks Target Mukhiyas in Bihar hacking mobile numbers of village heads

Cyber Crooks Target Mukhiyas in Bihar after hackers broke into the mobile phones and WhatsApp accounts of several village heads in Bhagalpur district. The incident happened in the Kahalgaon block, where cyber criminals targeted around six mukhiyas from different panchayats.

Reports say Cyber Crooks Target Mukhiyas in Bihar by pretending to be officials from the Panchayati Raj Department. The scammers contacted the leaders and tricked them into responding to suspicious calls or numbers. Soon after, the hackers gained control of their phones and WhatsApp accounts.

The affected panchayats include Dhanoura, Ekchari, Bholsar, Rampur, Kairiya and Mathurapur. Once the accounts were hacked, the fraudsters sent messages to contacts asking for money in emergency situations.

In one case, relatives of a mukhiya transferred ₹23,000 after receiving a QR code from the hacked WhatsApp account. The victim later informed police about the fraud.

Police and cyber cell teams have started an investigation. Authorities also warned public representatives to avoid responding to suspicious calls and messages.
