MSME Growth in Bihar: 11 Lakh Units Generate Jobs for 77 Lakh People

MSME growth in Bihar creating employment through small and medium enterprises

MSME growth in Bihar has created large employment opportunities over the last three years. Government data shows that more than 11 lakh micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have provided jobs to about 77 lakh people across the state.

The rapid MSME growth in Bihar increased after the COVID-19 pandemic. Financial support from banks and government schemes encouraged many entrepreneurs to start small businesses in sectors such as trade, manufacturing and services. This expansion has strengthened the state’s local economy and created jobs in several districts.

Data presented in Parliament shows that 11,34,156 MSMEs were registered in Bihar between 2022 and 2025. Among them, Patna district has the highest number of enterprises, accounting for nearly 10 percent of the total units.

The trade sector leads with more than 6.14 lakh units, followed by 2.70 lakh manufacturing units and 2.49 lakh service enterprises. Together, these businesses have generated employment for over 7.7 million people across the state.

Government schemes such as the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) have also supported new entrepreneurs with subsidies and financial assistance, helping expand small businesses and create more jobs.
