Actor-turned-politician Vijay moved closer to power after TVK MLAs elected him as their legislative party leader. This decision boosts the chances of Thalapathy Vijay as Tamil Nadu CM.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam held the meeting in Chennai. Newly elected MLAs attended the meeting and supported Vijay. They unanimously chose him to lead the legislative party. This step strengthens the possibility of Thalapathy Vijay as Tamil Nadu CM.
TVK performed strongly in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The party won about 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly. It also emerged as the single largest party in the state.
However, TVK still needs more support to reach the majority mark of 118 seats. Party leaders have started talks with other parties. They hope to gain support from Congress and Left parties.
Political observers say the party may soon form the government. If it secures enough support, Vijay could soon take oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
